Treating Study Volunteers as ‘Customers’
A recent CenterWatch analysis shows that poor customer service significantly harms patient recruitment and retention effectiveness. Nearly 40% of all pre-qualified volunteers fail to enroll due to inconvenience and lack of responsiveness from investigative site personnel. Steps to improve customer service have far reaching implications as customer satisfaction is tied to all aspects of the process – from protocol design to site selection, research center operations to data collection and management.
Building Momentum for Data Interchange Standards
The adoption rate of clinical data interchange standards is beginning to accelerate. One in ten sponsor companies is making submissions to regulatory agencies using CDISC models, and one out of eight clinical projects is utilizing the consortium’s data interchange standards at this time. Disparate proprietary standards, lack of infrastructure and a fragmented vendor market have constrained adoption. HIPAA, an alliance with HL7 and new FDA guidance are expected to boost CDISC standards usage.
