    Facility Description

Clinical staff are available around the clock to evaluate and consent potential subjects. Coordinators are experienced with EDC, eCRF, IVRS, portals and data upload for central reading. All potential subjects are initially screened and monitored via our electronic medical record. We maintain a comfortable and spacious area for site monitoring with internet connectivity, convenient retrieval of subject records, source documents, and CRFs, including pharmacy records. Limited EMR system access can be granted for monitoring purposes.

Lab: We have the ability to draw and process our own blood samples. There is a fully accredited on-site lab open 24 hours a day.  A microbiologist is available to prepare and store isolates for shipment to a central lab. We have a -20°C and -80°C freezers. Laboratory staff is experienced in the handling and packaging of specimens with dry ice.

Pharmacy: SIUH has an on-site central pharmacy which is operational 24 hours a day. There is also a satellite pharmacy available in the emergency department.  Study medications can be stored at room temperature or refrigerated in a secure manner.  We have experience randomizing patients to study drug assignment using an IVRS (interactive voice response system).

IRB: Northwell administers one IRB committee that meets twice a week. The IRB reviews, approves and monitors biomedical and behavioral human research. We offer services in support of clinical research and compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations governing human subject protections. Our IRB committee is comprised of people with diverse clinical and professional expertise from across the health system. Representatives from the lay community also play an important role in ensuring that the rights and welfare of the communities served by the health system are respected and maintained.
