Amgen to create hundreds of jobs in Dublin

August 23, 2011

US drug firm Amgen plans to create 100 high-tech jobs at a new factory in Dublin just months after it saved 280 jobs by taking over a Pfizer plant that was earmarked for closure, according to The Post.

Amgen plans to build a new manufacturing plant in Dun Laoghaire alongside the Pfizer plant it bought in May. Around 350 construction workers will be employed during the building of the 8,600 square meter factory and 3,000 square meter warehouse at the site on Pottery Road.

The new factory will be involved in manufacturing the next generation of drugs from Amgen, which makes treatments for cancer and other serious diseases.

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council previously granted permission to Pfizer for development on the site, but Amgen will submit a revised planning application.

The firm has informed local residents of its plans and invited them to visit the company on open days to find out more about the development. Amgen announced a deal in March to buy the existing Dun Laoghaire plant from Pfizer and took control of the facility in mid-May.
