UK group launches OpenTrials transparency site, U.S. experts keep an open mind

Open Knowledge, a nonprofit dedicated to creating and sharing medical information, has launched a Beta version of its OpenTrials online search engine of the world’s clinical trials. According to Open Knowledge, the OpenTrials site fea­tures an advanced “threading” search function to aid comparison data and promote transpar­ency. The site will also allow users to highlight important discrepancies in data.

FDA and CluePoints advance data quality oversight

CluePoints, a provider of risk-based monitoring and data quality oversight software, has signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the FDA. By signing the agreement, the FDA will be able to develop and test CluePoints’ existing quality oversite software, further exploring a data-driven approach to identify clinical trial sites that exhibit anomalies that may indicate signs of fraud or misconduct. The FDA an­ticipates the approach will help identify sites that may have escaped detection previously, accelerate a more rapid turnaround of results, offer the ability to determine the nature and extent of data anomalies, and provide means of exploring the interaction of various factors with data quality.
